If you choose to X, your partner has a lebensohl 2N available. You're not playing leaping Michaels (just in case you're feeling tempted to distort your shape a little).

Needless to say, my choice didn't work out too well or I wouldn't be posting the hand.

I would just overcall 3C. We might miss hearts but I can't handle partner bidding diamonds as my hand is not that strong.

3♣ is clear. The risks of missing a 4-4 heart fit are outweighed by the auction becoming unmanageable if we double.

Definitely 3♣. Can't stand if partner bidding diamonds if we double.

We have a good hand.. but I dont see where it is good enough to do anymore than 3♣. If we X and PD bids leb and then ♦ we will not be happy. If he responds 3♦ showing some values, we still may not come out all right as what do we then bid? If we then bid 3♥ many will think we have a hand too good to o/c 3♥

You streched for your 3 Heart bid and your partner chickend out with a pass, no good idea. I think he should have tried 3 NT instead of passing. There are many hands where 3 NT is not worse then 3 heart.

We agree that trying for game in 3NT has better expectancy than passing 3♥ in a 43 fit.

I would also bid 3♣, this might also bury the 5-4 heart fit, but there is no alternative except leaping michaels wich I wouldn't try because I hate my ♠Q.

I really do not understand the pass of 3♥. I think 3NT is clear on the North hand. In fact, I might have bid 3NT over 3♣. But my requirements for a direct action over a preempt are higher than most posters.

By the way, I think that 3♣ is the clear choice on the South cards.
