The star player in particular played the 10, but imo that's losing bridge! You 'know' that rho has a big chance of getting a trick, and he'll return ♥ which destroys your entry for ♣s. Normally you should have around 6 tricks in ♣, 2 in ♠, 1-2 in ♦ and hopefully 1 in ♥. I thought ♦A was obligated, and if you really want to finesse, ♦Q, but NEVER the 10!

Perhaps the star was sleepy, these things happen

♦Q is probably safest to keep control of the ♦ in case lho lead the suit from nothing...

being an intermediate player the more i think of this the harder it gets, i would play west for the king but i would play the ace off first and attack clubs, obviously i need east to have ace of hearts, if also holding ace club the job is done no matter what the diamond holding, so assuming west has the ace club and leads small diamond i then have to decide whether opening lead is from Kxxx or Jxxx i play for Kxxx and play the Q on 2nd round.

it seems to me best play at imps is ♦A, if you are sleepy you can play ♦Q, but the ♦10?, it may be the only winner when west has no entry at all and ♠ are 3-3....if it is what happened I think he was cheating.

I play the Ten of ♦, simply for the fact that you have to You need to stop the ♦ suit for 3 times to come to 9 tricks.
Let's say you play the Q and it holds, you set up the ♣ and now they play back ♦ Jack. Only way to get to dummy is K of ♥ and therefore Ace needs to be onside. So East hops up with the Ace and plays his last ♦, they win 3 ♦ and 2 aces for down 1.
