Scoring: IMP

1♣ - 1♠
2NT - 3♣ (asking for 4♥ or 3♠)
3♥ - 3♠
3NT - 4♣
6♣

Do you agree with est bidding over 3nt ?

Would you accept slam from West point of view after the 4♣ bid ?

I am not clear exactly what 3S was to imply which will weigh in heavily on the opening hand. To me after hearing 3H E should just bid 3N. 3S and following up with 4C is looking to higher levels. I do not agree with the leap to 6C either and would have cue bid 4D.

When partner can hold just 3 cards to open 1C bidding 4C with a hand a bid marginal on values is far too much for me.

Bidding by east after 3NT is anti%age

East should end the auction after 3♥ the hand is a missfit, you need partner to have no red wastage at all (♥A or ♦K are ok, rest is not) for slam to be good (good is not cold), and he has 7 cards in those suits.

Jumping to 6♣ is... how is that 3 letter word Justin?

where should I start to explain how bad 6♣ is?.

-Partner is unlimitted and you might have 14 top tricks
-Partner knows your exact shape and strenght and you know nothing about him

How can anyone make a unilateral decision on this situation????? I have no words.

Hi,

what was 3S?

I would guess, it would show a 6th spade and slam interest.
I need new glasses, but even if I get one, do you really believe
I would discover a 6th spade or reason to justify slam interest
(At most 30point and a 4-4 fit in clubs are not enough)?

With kind regards

East should end the auction after hearing 3♥.

You have a combined 29-30 HCP and what is probably a misfit. The only way a club slam might be a reasonable shot is if West has 5 clubs. But wait! West has announced a balanced hand with a 4-card heart suit. West is extremely unlikely to have 5 clubs as well.

Thank you, that is Right, I just realised that with 5 clubs we would probably bid 2 ♥ instead of 3NT.

I'm fine with 3♠. Since I'm not supporting hearts and I didn't rebid 3♠, I should have 5 good ones with a concern about 3N.

3N is OK I guess. The ♥9 looks like a nice card. East should pass if there's trust.

4♣ is a little unilateral.

6♣ is immature (even after 5♣).

Agree with all that going on over 3NT with the east hand is a clear error.

However, I'm very clear that it's impossible to stop short of slam with the west hand after 4♣. It can't be a question of slam or game with this hand now, it's a question of a small slam or a grand slam.
Kind regards,
Harald

Over 3H, 3Nt is still showing 5S, so 3S is a slam try. Since its not a slam try with 5S/4H or a 1 suiter with spades its automatically a S+C slam try or a quantitative balance slam try. Holding only 4C and a minimum west did well to bid just 3Nt and west 4C is terrible bid of making 2 slam try with a hand that maybe doesnt worth making 1.

Also note that 3Nt by west doesnt necessarly give up on slam with a nice 19 with 3 trumps spades support opener will cue bid instead of just lazily raise to 4S.

Some play that 3S is 5 very good spades looking for 3Nt or 4S (in 5-2) but i much prefer to use 3S as a slam try.

After 1C - 1S - 2NT -3C - 3H -3S -3NT, opener is marked with 2434 shape (maybe 1444). With a combined 29-30 HCP and a misfit, responder's pass is clear.

From East's point of view slam is possible but needs a very suitable hand, e.g.

Ax Axxx Kxx AKxx
Ax Axxx xxx AKQx
Ax xxxx Kxx AKQx

As others have noted, it is probably anti-percentage for East to move over 3NT but I'd say it's not absolutely clearcut.

West definitely did too much. He has prime cards but usually one of those red kings will not be working. Cue bid then accept East's 5♣ signoff is enough.

I just bid 3nt over 3h.
