Deleting or cracking down on sarcasm: 9
Ignoring sarcasm: 9
(matter of style/taste/the desired atmosphere on a wide continuum)

Deleting or cracking down on complaints about sarcasm while ignoring the sarcasm: -4 (would be -6, but it does have some inherent humor value)

I miss han so much, and will miss josh, Frances isn't posting nearly as much, and some others seem to be gone as well.

But we get new recruiments, not everything is trash.

My company have implemented some new internet filtering software, and the forums appear in the 'banned' category of computer games. So no more posting in odd spare moments from work.

I predict josh will come back. Would be nice to see Han back as well, and Frances always posted the best play problems (as well as having cogent comments). Waldkk is infrequent, Reisig hasn't posted in a very, very long time.

And with no disrespect to recent arrivals, these are big shoes to fill.

At the risk of making things worse (or better, depending on your p.ov.) I intend to stop posting for a while.... if I miss it, I'll be back... but if not.... I'll get more work done and maybe have more time for playing bridge.

 Goodbye dude

Between Josh, Han, Frances, Arend, Gonzalo and many others not posting any more, it seems that the forum has lost some of it's momentum. I loved reading some of the discussions or arguements between two excellent posters. I even miss Nuno not posting as much (:)). While it's true there are still plenty of good posters on the forum, there does seem to be a lower quality of content, and it's just not the same without them. I also have not been posting as much lately, I've been all over the place playing bridge. Sadly I cannot remember as many hands as I want to, but I will try to post some things in the next few days as I remember them if possible.

I joined shortly before "han" retired, but his and Josh's posts, while sometimes harsh, were always direct and to the point. They were responses I could trust, and while some of the newer members may be excellent players, we may just need to wait a little while to be able to identify who they are.
Yay for the "Ignored Users" feature!

I must admit I don't post here very often either these days. However, I still read the forums every day that I'm near a computer, just as I play less and less bridge, my desire to contribute to issues is less. I'm not up on the top names in bridge any longer.

People's life changes from time to time. Maybe at some point in life I'll get back into bridge a lot more and I'll post more. I imagine this happens to a lot of people(Not that I'm saying that my posts are at all interesting).

This really reminded me of those good days when Fred and Ben were around almost all the time, answering or discussing different questions. (I know Fred and Ben are still around the forum, but definitely not that active as we hoped:()

Not sure if there is still a bidding poll, but 3 or 4 years ago there was a bidding poll initiated by Ben and others. It was really entertaining.

The online bidding poll is still there, last one was in December 2008, finished on january 2009. It takes a lot of work to do it. But if oyu are interested you might try to run your own. You will get a lot of entries.

The problem with Fred, is when one now puts out bait for him, not only does he eat the bait, he eats the fishing line, and rod, and the boat too. In older days he would take the bait and, running with the thread, tow the boat along to port. The good news is that his current approach is much better for time productivity, which means more time for BBO and software, and for me if less from Fred here means more things like BBO/mobile, its a win for far more of us if he's business and software focused.

Now that we are Fred-poor, the rest of us can step up to the plate, but we have to avoid playing grenade baseball. On unmoderated rec.games.bridge, here are quotes from a current thread, the quotes all from yesterday or early today:

- Your assertion that maybe Meckwell would win more if they listened to you shows the height of your stupidity and ego.
- The gist of this sub-thread is that your hysterical attack on the 1D bid in question has been met with disagreement and silent derision, now not so silent.
- You continue to be a true genuine ape.
- The most pathetic thing about this is that you are taking isolated hands and trying to make a case against a systemic call that you don't understand.

Makes one happy to be in BBO forums, doesn't it?

My experience in the 90's when I participated that you had a lot of haughty Flight B players that mostly exchanged insults. Very little good bridge was discussed.

is Richard Pavlicek one of the flight B players you are referring to? Or maybe Bill Jacobs, Adam Wildavsky, or Keiran Dyke?

Dude, serious question.

Do you call your mom and cry that the mean mean people are mean to you on the forums? Does she tell you how the mean moderators must be in collusion with the mean mean posters for not doing anything to stop this outrageous behavior towards you? Do you tell her how even though half your posts are defending the honor of yourself or the forums and calling for the moderators to do something or asking the mean people to read the terms of service, nothing happens?

Maybe you will never get it. There is a reason most, as you say, "regular forum posters" do not like your posts. You are generally making trollish posts, or are up in arms about something, or are being a contrarian for the sake of it, or are promoting your pet methods, whatever. You just need to relax. Remember those movies where the socially inept kid is getting bullied, and his parents say "just ignore it and it will stop?" That is actually how it works! Just lighten up, laugh at yourself a little, stop trying to report people to the hall monitor and telling them to read the student handbook page 16 section 3.

It is not pure chance that people don't like you. It is your own doing. It is easily fixable. Your favorite insult to me is to call me "antisocial" but you frequently drive people away, whereas anyone who knows me can tell you whether or not I have friends, and whether or not I am actually antisocial. If you really care this much about the forums and how people treat you, look at yourself not others. Seriously.

These things are generally self moderating.

Hopefully this post did not hurt your feelings, we can go back to trolling/insulting each other now (yes that's right, you are frequently insulting to me too!) but I can see that you really care so maybe this will help you. GL.
