Not obvious actually. It could be that bidding hearts will work well to let partner judge if they save. But at least as likely what partner really needs to know if they save is the spade support.

I'm not pulling double to 5s if 5dx comes back to me regardless of what I bid now, so I'll feel a lot more comfortable if I've shown spades than if I've shown hearts.

I'm not too worried about the constructive aspects. If partner can make a slam opposite this junk, he's likely to move over 4s anyway.

Agree with 3H fnj. I am very curious as to why i passed first up. I guess the wine waiters are getting to play lots of hands these days.

I'd bid 3. I don't want to hang partner for the third-seat opening, and this is more of a "bad limit raise" than a game force in my book.

Not convinced by 3 "fit non-jump" -- what do you bid with a maximum passed hand and a heart suit? If you have to double and lose the ability to distinguish between five good hearts and four mediocre hearts, I'm not convinced that the benefits of playing fit non-jumps are going to compensate you in the long run.

If pard opens 4-card majors in third seat, and/or is prone to super light openings, 3S is a good idea. On the point about having passed a good hand with long hearts, we can construct a few which would not open 2 or 3 hearts the first time, but probably not enough worry about if fit showing non-jumps are your cup of tea.

Well you might have opened 2H to begin with.

3. Hate it.
