♠85
♥K853
♦4
♣AQ8753
Bidding goes:
Pa Pa 3♦ Pa
Pa X Pa ???
(this was taken from ACBL's Bridge Bulletin)
However, what if it were:
3♦ X Pa ???
Is it a different situation?
Moreover:
Pa Pa 3♦ X
Pa ???
(yeah I guess some of you wouldn't have passed the first time, would you?)
What's your take?

In the next two examples I'd probably be disappointed if partner showed up with <12 HCP but he's certainly allowed to do so.
Anyway this hand rates to play well in a suit and since we're all red at IMPs I won't take any chances: 4♥

I'd do that in all three auctions, with varying degrees of confidence.

For instance, he doesn't like being used as a human shield when we're being shot at.
I happen to think it's a very noble way to meet one's maker, especially for a guy like him.
Bottom line is we never let that difference of opinion interfere with anything."

Do not underestimate the power of the dark side. Or the ninth trumph.

If Partner was not a passed hand I bid 4♦ and correct 4♠to 5♣
