Hi,

I would like to know the pros and cons of having a 2/1 bid as always game forcing versus having a 2/1 bid as game forcing except if responder rebids suit.

Example,

1 - 2 - 2 - 3 is forcing in one and NF in another.

Is it a matter of style or is there a clear consensus on which is better?

TIA

There is not really a "clear consensus" on much of anything about bidding.

But the modern style seems to favor 2/1 absolutely game forcing, possibly with direct jump shifts showing the invitational hands (so 1-3 would be the invite and 1-2-2-3 is forcing).

Unless you like Bergen raises of course :) . Have these gone out of favour ?

I don't think they've gone out of favor, though there are similar methods, such as Hardy raises, that also use the jump shifts.
