north opens and the system is your favourite 2/1 that does not include lots of artificial bids.

Won't a 1-2-3 start, where 3 shows extras, get you to 6 rather comfortably?

Me too. But if 3 doesn't show extras, S may end up in 3nt.

I wouldn't rebid 3 on the north hand with so much outside my suits, so I get to 3n. Life's tough.

Nice canape hand:

1-P-3-P-
6

That works.

I prefer to play the rebid as showing 5-5 at the 3 level (suggested by kokish). There are alot of problems with rebidding 3D with this hand.

You can still get there if you play a style where you cannot rebid 3D with this hand, north can bid 2N and south can bid 3D and that will get you there. Rebidding 2N with a 16 count has the problem of getting you to 3N opposite a 16 count as well though. If north rebids 2S, south bids 2N and north bids 3D and now south doesn't know north has extras and might be tempted by 3N with KJx of clubs... oops.

So we go back to rebidding 3D with 5-4 when you have extras, warts and all? I dunno but it makes this hand easier. I just think there's no great solution to this problem.

Hmmm......

I thought a while back about...

2 for 5+ hearts, 4+ clubs, not enough to high-reverse,
2 for 5+ spades, 4+ clubs, not enough to high-reverse, and
2 for 5+ spades, 4+ diamonds, not enough to high-reverse.

Solves the high-reverse problem in bridge. Cost is weak twos (but not a problem for at least fourth-hand openings, or not as much).

Maybe since 1-2-3 is such a death sequence, and a 2 opening so undecided for so many people (what the Heck do you want to play 2 as showing, and do you give a *****?), maybe at least THAT part might have some merit...

I would have no qualm about rebidding 3 on this, with the intention of then bidding 3NT if there is room. I'm more interested in showing the strength than the diamonds to be honest, although both are good reasons. As for responder over 3 he has a very easy raise, so no problems on this hand.
Please let me know about any questions or interest or bug reports about GIB.

Yes. "not a lot of artificial bids" suggests maybe you have not discussed the system in great detail with this partner, but I think most believe 3D shows extras and might only be 4, unless agreed differently. Ken's alternative auction is cool but not within the OP's conditions. (2/1- fairly simple)

Hi,

lets see

1S - 2H (1)
3D (2) - 4D (3)
4H (4) - 4S (5)
4NT (6) - 5D (7)
6D

(1) SAYC style, i.e. promising another bid
(2) natural, showing add. values, 5-4
(3) natural and forcing
(4) cue, showing a top honor
(5) cue, could be shortage, also denies the ability to safely bid 4NT
RKCB is out, if p showes up with 2KC we are overboard
(6) RKCB, all suits are controlled
(7) 1KC

The above is basically a SAYC auction.

With kind regards
Marlowe
