Still decidedly intermediate - don't take my guesses as authoritative.

Probably someone messed up an admin setting.

No-one messed up an admin setting, but all of our web sites have been deliberately taken down by our internet service provider. We are in discussions with them about why this drastic step has been made and about how to quickly restore our websites so that there is minimal impact on the services we provide to the bridge community. I have been assured by our ISP that the matter will be escalated and they expect our service to be restored by morning.

As a result of this un-provoked and sudden interruption in our internet service, we WILL be seeking an alternative website hosting company as soon as this immediate crisis has been resolved.

Thank you for your patience.

I guess the messed up admin setting was picking the wrong ISP. :-) Looking forward to seeing the site back online.

barbara.bridgeblogging can be retrieved from google cache. (Not a serious solution but might be better than nothing for the time being).

It seems the DNS have been switched to the new host before the content was migrated.

I'm quite sure the addresses will stay the same, I guess the content just needs to be moved from one server to another. Give it a day or two.

Thanks for the vote of confidence, guys, but unfortunately the site still needs to be taken down.

Here's the problem: There were some security concerns raised by our ISP that our site may have had a security breech. This ISP compeltely cut us off (an act that we feel is totally unprofessional and absolutely atrocious) without so much as a phone call!

Our ISP has restored our internet service now with our assurances that we will address the security concerns. We are now working towards upgrading our software to address this issue.

The website address is back up now, however you won't be able to do anything there until these issues are addressed. Once we are confident that we will not get a repeat of this problem, we will restore service.

After this, much much later, say next month, we will again have to take the website down, as we will be looking for a new ISP. Our current one, in our opinion, has been completely unprofessional throughout this whole process. In the meantime, we are stuck with what we have got.

Again, I appreciate your continued patience in this matter.

Cheers,

Your ISP might have been unprofessional, but at least they tried their best to prevent my computer from being infected.

I think any other responsible ISP would do the same: bring down the site first and then notify. Notifying first and waiting for response would only increase the risk for the users of that site, which isn't a good thing.

If they didn't notify at all... well...

Sorry, I was prompted to write this after seeing onoway's post about "HighHandedness" of BBO...

Trumpace, i don't disagree with you. I think the ISP was within their right to remove the site to prevent any further infractions from occurring. But due to the nature of this exact problem, it still isn't clear to me that what they have told us about was anything under our control, or that in fact we were in the wrong with anything we have done!

Anyway, I don't necessarily disagree with the action that they took, only the way that it was managed and handled. They have our phone number, a simple call would have been nice...

But anyway, I digress. I have work to do! I know you all want to catch up on your blog reading so I better get back to it!

Thanks all,

Luise
