1. a) I held
♠A ♥Q102 ♣AQJ9 ♦AQJ102

The bidding
3♠-pass-pass-my bid?

(I doubled and opener redbld?)

:rolleyes: It went
3♠-pass-pass-dbl
redbl-4♣-pass-my bid

What do I now bid?

(I bid ♣5 - dont know if the redbl made me timid or not - the hand made 7♣ - but we got 6 imps for it because a lot of the field played in ♣4 - and none in slam)

1. Whatever card you take away, double is obvious.

Whether 5 Club was right would depend on the 13 cards you actually had.

#2 XX is odd, ...
A good rule after a preempt is, to assume partner has half of the
missing HCP.
I have 20HCP, the single Ace of spade is not nice, but the single in their
suit is, the preempt will usually be based on a hand with 6HCP,
missing are 12, hence our side will have 26.
The XX does not really change the equation a lot, only that the points
of the preemptor will be in soade, which is good news as well.
With 26HCP you want to play game, if you discovered a fit.
You have found a fit, most of the time 4C will be based on a 5 carder,
so raising 4C to 5C is fine.

I think 5♣ is enough.

Even if p has a heart control, we could still lose a trick to a heart ruff, or we could lose a second heart trick to the jack, or one of the minor kings could be offside. Or the clubs could split badly.

The problem with the cue is, that quite often noone has an
idea, what the cue actually means, does it agree clubs as
trumps?

Besides there is not much space left between 4S and 5C.
