All white, you hold:

♠KJ93
♥9652
♦Q9
♣T53

Bidding goes:

1♦ 2♣
2♦ 3NT

What type of lead does this auction ask for? Why?

Also, he rates to not have a heart void when he leads the ♥3.

Low spade. 4th best from longest and strongest. The minor suits finesses could all be very well placed for declarer so I want to attack. Maybe I should lead a top spade instead in case the ♠9 can be a big card that needs to be unblocked if partner say has Qxxxx.

The auction alone doesn't call for any particular type of lead. However, in conjunction with my minor-suit holdings it suggests an aggressive lead.

I wouldn't consider anything other than ♠2 - a high ard is much more likely to mislead partner than to do any good. After ♠9 lead, I can imagine partner winning his ace and confidently switching to a heart, then doing the same when he gets in with ♣A.

Agree with a spade. Its 100% at IMPs and probably right at MPs too.

The ♠3 is clear-cut, for previously stated reasons.

What if the bidding had been 1♦-3NT, would your lead change?

I'd lead a heart now, because they might have two balanced hands. They might, of course, still have the hands they had in the first auction; if so, that's the benefit of an uninformative auction.

I think it absolutely calls for a particular type of lead, namely an aggressive lead. Dummy has a source of tricks, and your doubleton queen is going to pop out on the second round in front of dummy, which isn't going to hurt declarer if there's work to be done. I think if this were a BW problem, half a dozen panelists would predict a unanimous panel for a low spade. Of course, they'd no doubt be wrong about the unanimity, but I think the lead is still 110% indicated.

Spades, the systemic one.

If you want to beat the contract, you have to go active,
i.e the auction calls for an agressive lead.

If you want to go passive, than hearts stands out.

Clubs and diamonds are out.

No.

Although spade is now a lot riskier, since you will
lead into declarers tenances.

Lead a diamond. Hope to force an early discard decision on 3N's side stops.

9♥

The 3N bidder likely has spades well stopped (AQx, AQ10), as they usually do when they bid like this. They are expecting a spade lead almost 100% of the time, based on the logic that everyone has given here, and will normally be well prepared for it.

His heart holding may not be so strong, and I want a spade led through declarer, and not me leading one into him. At the same time, I let partner know that I have no real interest in hearts.

Jmoo.
