Kibitzed this (IMP's):

♠ -
♥ AKQJ106
♦ 1084
♣ AJ64

1♥ - (2♣) - 2♦ - (Pass)

What do you bid, and what does it mean?

Who has the Spades ?
Partner rates to have long Diam ( ~ 7 cards ) not to make a Neg-DBL
if he also has 4 cards Sp.
That doesn't leave much room for Hts or Cl.
He could well be void in Hts.

I'll just go ahead and bid 6D.

3H.

Game forcing, setting my suit as trumps.
I have a suit I can play oppossite a void,
I will tell this partner.

And besides, there are cases when 2D may
be based on a 4 carder, they may be rare,
but they exist.

With kind regards

What does 3C cue show: 2-places to play and S-void to say next? Or 3S splinter as D-fit with H-solid next? Jump 3H as solid suit with S-void next then D-fit? Which are well-defined? Or are all these choices "hog on ice"?

3♥. If partner bids 3♠, I can cue 4♣ and partner should be well placed to count tricks. If partner fails to cuebid spades, I'll bid 6♥ over 4♥ and I'll bid 4♠ over 4♦, then 6♣ over whatever is next. Then partner will bid 7♦ with solid diamonds.

This is from the ongoing European championships, and the board was played at a number of tables.

Some chose 3♥ others 3♣.

For resulters; partners hand was something like:

♠ Kxx
♥ xx
♦ AQJ9xx
♣ xx

so it is a 5 or 7 hand.

That was not my reason for posting, however.

Much as I like to set thrumphs on solid suits, I think this might not be the right time.

It is not often that we play inferiorly (is that a word???) in diamonds, and if partner has ♦ AKxxx(x)(x), we should play in diamonds, on the vast majority of hands. (Slam is ok when partner has 5, and excellent with 6. With seven, grand is good, but might easily be evasive.)

So the only reason I see, to bid 3♥, should be that we are afraid of the 5-level. And personally I dont think this justifies ruling out the diamond-slams
