Where might I read about the topic of competitive bidding that addresses the issue of how the Opener and his/her Partner deal with their responses to Overcalls and bidding by the Advancer?

Another good source, but not all are standard, is Robson and Segal's book, which you can get for free from Daniel Neill's webpage. Look for it on the following webpage.

Agree. Mandatory read, whether you do what they say or not.

Third it -- regardless of whether you agree with the proscribed methods (a lot of which make sense BTW), it's mandatory reading for any serious partnership.

"25 Ways to Compete in the Bidding" from Barbara Seagram and Marc Smith was one of the better books I found recently. Like others, I am not sure I agree with it all - but that isn't the point - it is a decent read anyway.
