Edit -- I should elaborate a little. Let's say they win and play a diamond and it looks like diamonds are 4-2. Pitch all your diamonds and play a low trump off the table. If RHO steps in and rams a side suit through, you can afford to ruff up on the first round and see what falls under the ♠K. If LHO wins, ruff the return and play another spade. I'll pick up everything except ♠Q9x on my left.

BTW, I have seen this type of play (low away from the king toward the jack, conceding two losers but trying to avoid three by making sure the danger hand cannot win the first round without playing 2nd hand high in front of air) called "Benito's trick."
