2♠ easy!
3♠ shows a solid suit so thats out.
4♠ possible, but I don't have a set agreement for this, so it's out.
Nothing else appeals.

Why not 3♣? After all partner can have 4 clubs, in which case it may be superior than something like 7-1 fits...

I'll bid 2♠ because this is a sort of hand that needs to gather information, rather than showing strength/shape with rebids of 3 or 4♠.

An interesting alternative is a direct 5♦ bid, if it's voidwood. Planning to bid later 6♠ rather than hearts.

Assume this is a 2/1 start. I am sure it is possible partner may have a C suit. On the other hand,practical assumption is H and D. I prefer 3S rebid as this is the suit I want to play and I am prepared to take all the blame should I miss a C slam. I do not at all favor the idea that 3S should be a solid suit, far too restrictive imo.

While it is true that I have very little information so far I would really like to not get a C lead. If I was to bid only 2S partner is likely to mention D next. Now upon reaching the S game I will get the C lead. If I am so fortunate to hear partner bid 4C after 3S it should be sensible to reach a S slam (4C a cue for S).

My partner's going to have to bid clubs at least twice before I consider playing in the suit.
... that would still not be conclusive proof, before someone wants to explain that to me as well as if I was a 5 year-old. - gwnn

The problem with 3♠ isn't the suit quality, it's the hand in general.

If you bid 3♠ I think you are masterminding the hand sure YOU want to play the hand in ♠ but this is a bad description of your hand to your partner who may actually be the one ending up deciding where to play this.
All IMO. Junior wanting to soak up all the knowledge he can.

2♠ seems normal. I'll bid clubs next if partner bids 2NT, but only to help him evaluate not with the intention of playing in the suit.

For a direct 4♠ rebid, I want a lesser suit (AJ9xxxx(x)). Don't ask me why.

What other call are you considering? We don't want to unilaterally set trumps via 3♠ on this hand, and the hand is inappropriate for 4♠ too.

2♠, 3♣ over 2NT, then 4♠ over 3NT.

I really don't like 3♠ here, aside from the fact that this shows a solid suit for me.
