2♥ is pretty obvious imo. 1NT would show 44+ ♥ & ♦ and less than an opening (this is standard right?), Dbl isn't right as well, so 2♥ is the only thing left.

Thanks to all who commented.
When this deal happened, I doid not feel like bidding 2H for the following reasons:
a) BOTH opps have bid, not only one, and pard has passed; it is true that RHO may have very few HCP, but odds are that p has very little and bidding a poor suit may result in a telephone number
b ) lot of defense very little on offense; all aces are in short suits, QT9xx not a great trump suit
c) If opps buy the contract, 2H is not even a great lead-directing bid
d) we are vuln, and chances are (having 16 hcp) that they do not have game, if they double and set us (not unlikely due to the Offense-defense ratio of my hand) that would be a bad score.
However, these were the hands:
NS had at least 3 H
I supposed suit quality is more important than hcp when having to overcall at 2 level, especially when hcp are concentrated in short suit, but this did not turn out well....

If I have a natural 1NT available, I'm bidding 1NT
Interesting to note that a lot of top players are switching back to a natural NT and away from a Sandwhich NT. I beleive that the chance is primarily based on to increased use of light openings and light responses. Its now getting more important to show values in the Sandwhich position...
If a Sandwhich NT is being played, hen I guess that I'd bid 2H, however, I'm not thrilled by the bid.

I think the problem is your evaluation of QT986. To me is actually an excellent suit. Only QJT98 would be better.
Why? Because QT986 is an offensive holding in the suit, so you will want to play the hand. I say it is offensive because you can make 3/4 tricks in the suit opposite nothing and you can't take any tricks on defense.
On the other side AK543 is worst because you have 2/3 offensive tricks but 2 defensive tricks as well.
QJT is the most offensive heading for a suit. And QT9 is close.

I would pass the first round. The risk is rather high and potential gains are low. Especially since, as I'm reasonably strong, they rate to stop short of game. After they bid 3♦ the situation changes dramatically. Bidding 3♥ is now quite safe: they have a fit, so our side rates to have one as well.

I would bid 2h, i believe its best to bid what you have fast , the chances of you getting doubled in 2h and also for this to be a bad score arent too high. the worse is to pass first and reopen later.

Pass, it will come back to me.
This could be very bad if I bid directly. With few pd's I can bid 1 NT as natural.

I Pass. I think I am more likely to go plus by defending on this hand.
As it happens, NS can only make 2♥, and EW can make 3♠ or 4♦, so on this hand, it hardly matters what you do.

Hi Chamaco!
Theoretically right bid is pass here, similar if your RHO opened 1♣ Precision with 16+HCP. You can later balancing if nessesary. Direct bids after opps shown strength (strong artifical opening, strong NT or 2 free bids without negative) are based on distribution and show nothing about strength, because opps already do that job for you. This theory is particulary very useful vs strong pass systems. I will give you an example of my bidding vs strong pass system in BBO team match.
My hand:
* Pass because lack of distribution
** Time to fight for your own score/game

I bid 2♥ at any form of scoring. My suit is reasonable and at least average as far a a lead indicator; my hand is above average and if I don't get in here I may never be able to.
