Scoring: IMP

The bidding:

1 P 1 P
3 P 4 P
5 X 5 P
6 AP

Lead : A, switch to 2

If you draw trumps you will find that South has J432.

Let it run to the K, cash a top trump. Club to the ace, finesse hearts, ruff a club high, finesse again. Draw the last trump and claim. Once you pick up the 4-0 trump split, you make if clubs are no worse than 4-2.

There were significantly more challenging defences available e.g. a diamond lead

GiB calculates that a diamond lead would make declarer lose trump control and the contract.

I played AK and a low club ruffed by the Q, followed by trump finesse. South discarded a spade on the low club. When I tried to use a spade to get to table to finesse again he ruffed.

Seems like manudude03's line is best.

was anyone else puzzled by the 3 bid? Was this in the context of a strong club method? If not, 3 is terrible.

You will be less puzzled about 3 once you look at the rest of the auction.
