Wow I think 4 is nuts! 3 is plenty for me. If I get doubled here I'm already in big trouble. Partner will know if he has a spade fit without me having to guess for him. Or maybe he won't even save but getting the spade lead lets me go plus.

I'm also a 3S bidder.
Obviously if it had started 1H - 4H I would bid 4S, but here a jump to 4S should suggest some expectation of making even if partner can't raise 3S to 4S.

Generally bidding 3S in this spot partner will raise with any sort of defendable excuse. 4S could work out well but a tad too much for me likes.

I think it is close, but bid 4♠. I just could not stomach passing if I bid 3 and 4♥ comes back to me...could be a double game swing.

This was another Gatlinburg Hand, and my dad had it... and passed.

I posted it wondering about whether 3S or 4S was right... Interesting.

As it was, as long as he bid anything we were in 4♠. The full deal:
