Scoring: IMP

(Pass)-2!-(DBL)-??
2=Muiderberg; weak with 5 card and 4+minor
You have following agreements:
- 2NT= asks for minor, rebidding 3 after this would be forcing and slem interest
- 3=Limit for minors,
    partner can pass with minimum hand and
    bid 3 with minimum hand and
    bid 3 with max hand and
    bid 3 with max hand and
- 3=Limit for majors.
- 3=preemptive
- 4=to play

The methods are not ideal here. You would like to know partners minor before setting the level. But having these methods how do you evaluate your hand?

Its white versus white?

I'm sorely tempted to XX

2XX will score great for us, as will defending 3X or 3X

I suspect that partner has Diamonds and should be able to hit that as well

Redouble.
and the result can be plotted on a graph.

Redouble seems the best choice.

Opponents have 9-10 card fit in hearts and half the deck so in the end, I will just bid 4S. But I wonder if 3C could be used for this hand to find out which minor and general strength - as long as partner is NOT going to make any other responses than what you listed! Ostensibly, 3C in the system shows limit in minors, but opener will probably have to act over a 3H or 4H bid and then we need agreements what bids mean in competition...

I really doubt that the opponents have a 10 card fit in hearts- or we need the TD to sort out which card is extra in this deck.

And even when they have a 9 card fit, I rate to have 4 tricks in my hand against 4 Hearts.

I redouble, they are in trouble. I willdouble any contract they try, when they make 3 Heart doubled because partner had something like QJxxx,-,Qxxxxx,xx, ***** happens.
Kind Regards

Roland

Hope still some experts read this additional question:
How do you evaluate this hand and what would you bid if RHO would have passed (I know it is difficult if you ca't ask partner's minor)?
Do you consider this a pass, a limit or a game hand?

And a less important question for me:
If it goes:
2S-(DBL)-RDBL-(p)
p-(3D)-p-(p)
??
Should partner always DBL with a 4-card D?

Scoring: IMP

2!-(DBL)-3!-(Pass)
4-(Pass)-Passs-(DBL)
All Pass

2=Muiderberg
3=limit hand for

K lead and 2X-3
What do you think of South's limit raise and North's raise to 4?

Once they have doubled it is extremely likely that partner has diamonds. I have 3 cards and 0 HCP in partner's suits and 10 cards and 11 HCP in the other two suits. I'd evaluate this as a very defensive hand. It is very unlikely that you will have play for game, try to make a layout where partner has diamonds yet game is good.

If RHO passes it is the same evaluation when partner has diamonds. There is now a small possibility that partner has clubs but this is still too unlikely to worry about I think. Pass.

Yes. Your methods should cater for responder's normal hands, not for extreme hands like this one.
... that would still not be conclusive proof, before someone wants to explain that to me as well as if I was a 5 year-old. - gwnn

Thanks all for the anserws, but this was what I was really looking for.
Note: Actually West was dealer and 2S Muiderberg was bid in 2nd hand.
- Do you think North is good enough for 4S after the invite?
- Is invite clear if South would have a 4th S?

It depends on style whether opener is good enough for 4S. I wouldn't think so.

No. Clear, in my opinion.

> Is invite clear if South would have a 4th S?

No. It's a clear straight 4 :)

Game is very far away with that hand, we can make at best 2, 2 ruffs and A. that means partner needs to make 5 tricks himself, he would need something like KQJxx and an ace for that. If the spades are bad you are in the -500 zone.

after a reouble partner is forced to double with ANY 4 diamonds he's got, if the diamonds are awful then do not open 2.

An ace 5th and a King 4th is a bare minimum, minimum shape, minimum strenght pass ASAP.
