Scoring: MP

1-2
2-3
3NT-4
5-6

You sub for a young Romanian padawan who forced to slam and then ran away. He was playing SEF for the first time and wasn't sure how natural 3 actually was.

How do you play this? low heart lead.
... and I can prove it with my usual, flawless logic.

K and Q. If it wins I will have a decision to make, but normally I just pray to ruff third diamond with 9

I'm placing K in LHO - why did he not lead trumph? I might lead from Kxx - so I place trumphs Kx - Jxx. I am expecting the diamond finesse to go - if not, I am already down. If RHO has 3 dia's + Jxx of trumph + K - it might just make.

Same : K then Q

Win K and play the 9, intending to run it. I am playing for the K and J of clubs on my right and the K on my left, or that I can pick up the clubs for no losers and ruff out the diamond suit without an overruff. I will make any time the K and J of clubs are doubleton on my right and diamonds are 3-2, anytime the K and J of clubs are tripleton on my right and RHO fails to cover the 9 and diamonds are 3-2, any time the K and J of clubs are tripleton on my right, the K is on my left and diamonds are 3-2, any time the K and J of clubs are 4 times on my right and RHO fails to cover, the K is on my left and diamonds are 3-2, and any time the K and J of clubs are 3 or 4 times on my right and diamonds are 3-2 with RHO having 3. I also have some chances of picking up 4-1 diamonds for 1 loser when the singleton diamond is either the K or the 10.

While I have not calculated which line is better, I suspect this is better than winning the K at trick one and running the Q.

Win the HK and lead a to the jack. If that wins, cash ace of and ace and another , ruffing...

If the loses, then I need a miracle but cross to the queen and lead the 9 of running it..if it goes 9, jack, queen then I can hopefully get back to dummy with a ruff and hope they can't overuff.
