Contract is 7♠, with the K♣ lead.


This hand was given to me by a friend... I couldn't find a way to make it, even after staring at the thing for over an hour... I was wondering if anyone had any ideas?

This is a very well known hand, the theme is very popular in double dummy problems.

It is sort of an elegant solution, just to think about how to unblock the diamonds.

Take it with the ♣A (pitch a diamond), spade to the ace, ruff a heart, spade to the king, ruff another heart, draw the rest of the trumps discarding ♦AK on the last trump and ♥A.

Cool, thanks... This looked like a set up hand... I had looked at that line and the ♦ unblock at some point, but I never realized I was going to be able to pitch on the ♠. Turns out I was actually given the hand to play in 7NT... I also looked at that for a while, but I didn't see a line there either :), is there a way to make 7NT here also?

Can't see a way of getting to 13, 12 is simple, but the 13th is stranded :) Only lead I can see 13 tricks in NT is a heart lead.

EDIT: I just checked NT on a double dummy program, it says you can't make 7NT.
