Scoring: MP

P-P-1-?

Probably not that important in how you handle it, especially at MP, but that was one of the better hands I've held in a while.

I'm going to try to do this as slowly as I can. Somewhat of a risk, but I'm going to go for the simple 1 overcall. I will bid clubs next and then keep rebidding spades. If partner has a great fit for clubs, we might find a better spot. And if it goes 1 float, so be it. I've had bad boards before.

IMO Cue 2 (Michaels) and rebid until partner shows black suit preference. Then bid the appropriate slam.

Wtp, he will only bid the grand if his partner has the ace of hearts, otherwise it wouldn't be appropriate. :)

I know... I couldn't help at the grand. But slam seems right, and perfectly reasonable :).

Or the opponents will believe you have a heart control for bidding the grand and will lead a diamond to partner's ace :)

I like Nigels approach.

Although I know of a story where one partner cuebid the opening suit three times in a row.
His partner could not believe it anymore and passed 4 in a very small fit.

I suppose Nigels partners won't do that do him.

Yeah, Michael's is probably in order. If I pass or bid 6 (or 6), without at least giving pd a choice I might be choosing the wrong strain or level. The hand is great but it still needs help from partner.

Also, he rates to not have a heart void when he leads the 3.

I like this strategy a lot, actually.

In real life I'd Michael's.

If you pass and then come into the 6 level, I bet the opponetns will smell the rat.

finding out if partner has A might be impossible, but partner has room for BOTH aces, you should aim to bid 4NT at some point, also 4NT induces the opponents to think you misread the fit and double you with 2 aces.

So 2 by now, 3 next, 4NT later before bidding 6.

K at trick 2

East was a very strong player. I ran all but one of my spades and then cashed the clubs from the top but they split 4-2. East did in fact have 2 clubs and the spade Jx, but maybe I should have tried for the club ruff instead of the "please wrongly pitch a club" strategy, but neither worked on this board for us. -100

What would (1) - 4NT mean?

I play 4NT opening as Specific Ace ask, but have never thought about (1X) - 4NT until I saw this hand
