2♣.  Making a four-card overcall means that you can't safely bid again, because of the risk of getting preference to spades.  If I overcall, LHO bids 2♥, and that comes back to me, I have a good enough hand to want to have another go.  Hence I overcall 2♣.  If I were a bit weaker, I'd bid 1♠.

So long as you and partner are on the same page, you can bid 3♣ after (1♥)-1♠-(P)-P; (2♥); advancer will not fail to support spades and then take preference when clubs are better.

Perhaps this hand is not quite good enough for that, but it is not that much different from (1♥)-2♣-(P)-P; (2♥)-2♠. Here, if we have "hit" partner he would very likely have raised a 1♠ overcall.

This seems like an easy 2C for me. Hate X, don't like raptor nor pass and I guess 1S would be my 2nd choice.

LOL at my mistyping, should be overcall.;)
Even if I'm close to minimum I might bid again even with a passed partner.
Kind regards,

I'm ok with doubling. Over a possible 2♦ by pard, I'll have to pass and hope for the best, but I got a good bid over any other response.

What do you bid over 3♦?

1♠ for me. Don't want to lose the spades. If the spades and diamonds were swapped I'd bid 2♣. 4 card overcalls common in our partnership.

Ok, it's fine you know that's what you want to bid, but I wouldn't call it a "good bid" like you did. You are forcing to game on less than game values when all partner could do was bid your singleton. I mean what if he rebids it?

Well, pard may have bid my singleton, but he still has a decent hand. It's very likely my tenaces are worth something as well, so 3NT rates to have SOME play.

Admit I'll be in trouble if pard has no stopper and is forced to rebid 4♦. But hey, there's a lot of good things that can happen meanwhile. If I'm always going to cater for the worst case scenario, I might as well never leave home :P
