What is this post about? I don´t know what -440 datum means sorry.
BTW agree with flame, 5♠ is a good bid, just unlucky today.
I love raptor.
Yes, 5
♠ was not a bad bid. The question is was 4
♠ the right bid? With five
♠'s, a jump to 4
♠ is not too much of an overbid. It is true, the hand is just worth an invite to 4
♠ however. But poor North, looking at what is likey only one or two defensive tricks and hearing an agruably could be very weak raise to 4
♠, is looking at a situation where five of either major may make (exchange
♠A and
♠K).
What I think Ron means by datum, is that when a lot of pairs played this hand, roughly the average result for EW was minus 440. A lot of this was 4
♠NS making four (-620), some no doubt was 5
♥X down one (-200), and a few, like here NS pushed too far and went off one in 5
♠ +100.
South would have been better suited to show a limit raise of
♠, then accept being pushed to game. That way, north would have been in the position to beforced to double 5
♥ because a "forcing pass" might get him to 6
♠. And since his partner's "limit raise" would promise some values, he would not be so quick to try to defend.
