I have to admit that I began by not understanding this auction... it sure looks like a weak field, in all 4 seats.
let's see: I passed a 12 count in 2nd seat, with 5 controls, two 10s and no rebid issue. Who am I? Roth or Stone?
Then I opened 1
♦, reasonably enough, with a modest 11 in 4th seat, but felt obliged, with a flat hand and the same 11 I started with, to bid 2
♠ rather than wait to see if partner could bid... knowing that he almost certainly could, since (unless everyone at the table passes opening hands) he has about 9-11 hcp. Maybe I didn't notice that my 11 count should be devalued because the heart K is probably offside?
Then, as North, having heard partner open and then voluntarily bid 2
♠, and having an opening hand that I have hidden so far, upgradable to a sound opening due to the heart position (most opps will have a heart honour for this overcall) I invite game???
Frankly, playing with either partner, I lose interest rapidly. Why bother thinking about declarer play when neither partner knows anything about bidding?
Sorry if this seems insulting, Phil... altho I suspect that you may not have been either N or S
