Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin abused her power as Alaska's governor in a case that involves the firing of her former public safety commissioner, a report for the state Legislature concluded today. The bipartisan Legislative Council, which commissioned the probe, unanimously adopted the 263-page public report after a marathon executive session.

Maybe she will earn the nickname Sarah "Stonewall" Palin...

I asked friends in Alaska how she got elected since she appears to be lights on - nobody home. They all say the same thing.

She was running against Murkowsky in the primary and he was SUCH a horrible governor that she beat him! And then, because Alaska tends to vote Republican without any undue thinking being involved, the day after the general election they were all looking at each other and saying "Huh???"

:P

but that doesn't explain her 80+% approval rating since the election, does it?

that's fallen a tad to a smaller, but still impressive ~70%. I really dislike popularity polls, they hardly ever have a large enough sample size and are thus more susceptible to high variance...

Maybe the $1000 oil checks to her constituents helped some.

Coda to the Bridge to Nowhere fiasco: Palin Begs for Federal Money

Quote

The 2008 GOP vice presidential nominee, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, scheduled meetings in Washington this weekend with Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky and other senators to press for her state's share of the package.

Understandable given the current fiscal crisis, but quite at variance with her campaign statements. (Consistent, though, with her past performance.)

whether or not that part is true, i do find it disheartening that the govs want the package passed because it's "free" money... that makes them look like the majority of their constituents, wanting something for nothing with no thought to what's good for the country

As I'm sure you know, the "red" states that supported Bush like the system of federal payments to states because the "blue" states pick up a disproportionate share of the tab. So it is free money to the red states.

Perhaps this welfare program for the red states will be modified now.

The "Palin Placebo" is a proven phenomenon - you are "heeled" if you believe in divorcing one of the governor's relatives, after which she cures you of having a job with the state.
