I agree, I don't think it was much of a performance from either, but McCain had those two awful moments. His whole style is so dumbed down, I can't even tolerate it. I really liked Obama's response to the one time McCain busted out "he doesn't understand....", but otherwise I think he could have done a fair amount better. The thing is though, he didn't have to...

doing better would require a surgically precise slam of McCain; the drawback is that if Obama were to miss, he would come off as arrogant and inappropriate.
re your "friend" comment... my kneejerk reaction was that that was sounding remarkably like the lyrics from the wall...
would, would you like to see

In fairness to McCain, didn't he say exactly that? Granted he blamed only the opposition party for it...

Who is saying it's a great idea? It sure sounded like a terrible idea to me, and that's all I've heard anyone else say as well.

That's cool. I wasn't consider the people on NBC CBS ABC "talking heads". I generally watch CNN, although I watched the debate on NBC.

Don't get me wrong. I love this country. But I don't feel the need to go up to some working guy and tell him how great he is. And I'm great. And you're great. My dog is great.

It often seems to me that McCain struggles to keep his anger in check. Even so, I was a bit surprised to see this piece by Michael Kinsley today: At the Craps Tables With John McCain
Quote
Guess he's not "Mr. Congeniality" at the craps table either.
The infliction of cruelty with a good conscience is a delight to moralists — that is why they invented hell. — Bertrand Russell
