MP, red v white, dealer on your right opens 1.

3/5 overcalled 1; 2/5 passed. Your thoughts?

2 in an individual game.
"Gibberish in, gibberish out. A trial judge, three sets of lawyers, and now three appellate judges cannot agree on what this law means. And we ask police officers, prosecutors, defense lawyers, and citizens to enforce or abide by it? The legislature continues to write unreadable statutes. Gibberish should not be enforced as law."

1. An overcall stopped promising a good suit at least a decade ago.
... that would still not be conclusive proof, before someone wants to explain that to me as well as if I was a 5 year-old. - gwnn

Who says we don't have a good suit? I'd rather have this hand for 1 than KT432, xx, x, A8xxx.

Anyway, I agree totally with Josh on both of Tim's hands.

I don't even consider this a problem and I am not concerned with what happened for that matter.

I imagine that someone who believed that J10973 wasn't good enough to overcall on would have thought the same about K10432.

At pairs you need to go with the flow and step in. Not the sort of suit I like to get in with but the shape sure argues in favor of competing.

Seems easy enough to bid 1 at MPs.

I am guessing the ultimate contract went for a telephone number and hence the question?

No, the overcall or lack of an overcall made little or no difference to the final contract or play of the hand. I posted the had because I would have expected a near unanimous forum answer of "1, wtp", so I was a little surprised to see 2/5 forum regulars in the individual pass with this hand.

If possible 2D, michaels, showing spades+?,
if 2D is out, because it promises both majors,
I would pass.

Due to the suit quality the answer "1S, wtp" will certainly
never be unanimous.
