I've noticed on several occasions now that when I make a takeout double and GIB is 4-4 in an unbid major and an unbid minor, GIB will almost always bid the minor suit. I had an extreme example today:

1♣ - P - 3♣ - X
P

GIB had:

♠Axxx
♥Kxxx
♦xxxx
♣x

Guess what? GIB bid 3♦.

Obviously there are many silly things that GIB does, but I have seen this action several different times in several different auctions now, making it a possible candidate for things to correct if anyone is working on improving GIB's bidding.

In that case I assume it just bids the cheapest suit. I would be more surprised if the following happened:

1♦ - P - 3♦ - X
P - 4♣

with ♠ Axxx ♥ Kxxx ♦ x ♣ xxxx

Also, was this matchpoints, IMPs, or total points? If you're in a partscore, the difference between minors and majors is generally negligible at IMPs or total points. I'd expect GIB (and players in general) to prefer majors at MP.

If BBO is going to take the reporting of GIB bugs (real or imagined) seriously, I think its time to start a new section.

I would like to see an actial area just for GIB
I have been playing with just GIB for the last 3 months and it does take some getting used to the way GIB bids

2♣pass 3♥ all pass

GIB had 14hcp ouch

EG#2
when GIB opens major and partner bids Forcing NT
GIB usually bids 3 card minor even when holding 6 card major

But i dont think anything will ever get done with GIB since the commercial product hasnt been updated since 2002

If it is any consolation to you GIBbers, I downloaded a copy of WBridge5 the other day (it won the last two computer champs) - it takes some getting used to too.

The trouble with computer programs is they can
1) follow rules (but the number of rules are truly enormous and tedious as there are milions and millions of possible bidding sequences)
2) learn (but it takes thousands and thousands of expert examples for them to "learn" - and even then they have only learnt the truth according to one expert - "teaching" a new treatment or convention to a machine is hard)
3) they can run simulations - but it seems they have a tendency for bidding for both hands when they do and you make one slight positive noise at them and you're in slam before you know where you are!)
