Master point requirement:
Beginning Jan 1, 2010, Total point requirement is increased from 300 to 500.
Gold 50, Red 50, Silver 75, Black, 75, rest any combination.
May be, it will take 5+ years for newcomers. Any comments?

Sure, I am already a life master, but it seems reasonable.

I think it depends on what/where you play. For me silver is the tough one to get as I generally don't play many sectionals at all (mostly just the ones that are local that end up with our club games shut down pretty much).
I'm just over current lifemaster with 325 points and of those they are ordered red (135) > black (78) > gold (57) > silver (55) > platinum (1 - yeah, silly match awards). If it weren't for STAC games I wouldn't be a LM now. If the new 500 LM were in effect I'd have already have all the needed pigmented points except for silver and I'd only be slightly ahead of the needed silver pace.

gold (134) > silver (35) > red (20) > black (15) > platinum (7.5)
I also have 2000 colorless eligibility points.
It seems I can get 15 silver by attending 2-3 sectionals and 35 blacks seems like about 40 club games. That seems like a lot of club bridge to me. I'd get them happily if I could get them through the BBO ACBL games, but my understanding is that I can't. (Or is it that I can only earn 50/3 of them through ACBL?)

If you give a little effort to selecting the games, you should be able to get 35 in well under 40 sessions; there seem to be all sorts of special games clubs can run that increase the awards considerable.

Play in a charity game during International Fund month (timely - it's September), earn extra points (I assume they're still black?) and also help to support the US and Canadian international teams.

They are all painful, perhaps impossible, aside from the Gold and Platinum.

ACBL masterpoints won on BBO (or any other online site) are unpigmented (colorless).
They do not count towards any of the color point requirements.
As far as total points for any rank is concerned, up to 1/3 of the total points needed to meet any rank may be unpigmented points. So, for example, under the current (old) standards, up to 100 points won online count towards meeting the 300 point requirement for LM. Under the new standard, up to 166.67 points won online count towards meeting the 500 point requirement for LM. But you still have to meet the colored point requirements.

But apparently eligibility points do not fall under that 1/3 as it says on MyACBL that I still need 85 masterpoints overall to make LM. Not that it is going to be a concern as I'm sure that by the time I get 15 silver + 35 black I will get another 30 points in the wash.
