I bid 1NT all the time with this type of hand.

1♦ seems like the standard bid, though.

and here i was thinking 1♥, wtp?

I'm bidding 1♦ since I think LHO is going to declare hearts and I want the lead. My spades aren't so good I feel like mentioning them with my one bid and they'll break badly even if we do have a fit.

I think I would bid 1♦ after the double even if playing Walsh.

In SAYC you are supposed to bid longer diamonds before spades so in SAYC 1♦ is 100% obvious.

1♦ non-forcing, showing 5, even though I play MAFIA (major always first in answering), and my bid would be 1♠ without the double.

Btw, I play weak jump shifts, but they show a 6 cards suit.

But I'm tempted to psych 1♥ and when I'm convinced that the opponents are in some sort of partnershiptrouble (arguing and disagreeing about previous hands) I would try it.

1♦, because that's the lead I want, and it's by far my best suit.

SAYC, 2/1, Walsh, whatever. 1 round forcing, not forcing, don't care.

It seems like half the time this happens my partner has 1 spade and 4 hearts, and they end up sinking in a major. Weird how that happens.

One thing to point out is, if my opps had (WARNING, sample hand ahead!)

They would bid 1♥, not X. It is my understanding that at levels higher than I play at, this is an X. So maybe that's why some of the better players are bidding a spade here.
