I'll try 3. Pard's allowed to bid 3 if we have a fit.

Making a negative double with a two suiter can be problematic, so 3for me as well.

As a passed hand when I pull 3N to 4, I have some flaw for not preempting. Maybe pard can work out I have spades when he's 3=1=4=5 or something.

I don't care that it's problematic , I'm still doubling here.

I know the Kx isn't a great holding, but it's enough that if partner bids 3NT that's where we're playing it. If partner leaves in the X, that means he has a lot of diamonds and even more clubs, so we probably didn't have a fit. Let's see if his 7-0 fit generates more tricks than our 6-1.

I have just barely enough defense to bid at all. I'm going to use any choice I have that doesn't involve forcing to game with this POC, and that's X. Problematic as it is. Partner's never going to guess I have 6 hearts until it's too late to stop.

Which non-game bid are you not raising to game or bidding game over?

Pass, certainly. But I would also pass 4.

True, there is no point in trying to more than triple your score without increasing the level into what may even be a longer fit.

Well, I do have KJT8xx. That's going to set up probably with only two losers across a singleton. If you feel that 4 is better than passing 4, I'm sure you're right.

How about if partner bids 3? Do your partners promise 4 card support with that bid? Would you bid 4 with it?

Lol. I suppose your are counting on the J as an entry in order to get your long heart tricks?

I'm saying that 4 will probably be all right even across a singleton. Which is why my next sentence says that I'm sure he's right when he says that 4 is a better place to play than 4.

I would like an answer on my 3 question though. Do you play it promises 4 after a passed hand X? Or just suit pref?

Ah. "Setting up" is used for side suits, not for the trump suit.

You're absolutely right. I should have said "draw trump with only two losers across a singleton".

If the suit were less solid (say, KJ8xxx) playing in 4 instead of 4 would bother me a lot more.

If you are asking what I would bid with AKx Qx xxx Axxxx if partner doubled, it's 3.

not neg X. Anything but Neg X with a 6-5.

3H is fine.

Alternatively, you could have bid 3S followed by 4H showing a 5-5 to get to the best major fit does not seem unreasonable.

You have 2 9-card fits. Getting to one of them when the other makes because of unfortunate distribution and then telling your partner that they bid wrong when they bid reasonably is terrible "resulting."

I don't think it wise to take bidding advice from this person.
