With fairly basic methods, please let me know how you would respond to a 1NT (14+-17) opening. You can play 4 suit transfers if you like, and if you decide to transfer to clubs and then bid 3D, you will have the following auction:

1NT 2S
3C* 3D
3NT

3C shows less than KJx in the transfer suit and/or a minimum hand.

Playing fairly basic methods I would transfer as you did and then bid 4/3NT. Yes 3NT might very well be the best spot, but with 6-5 hands, I really don't like playing in NT.

I would feel much better if I had a method to show a 6-5 hand by 3NT (I do in my regular partnership) where I have 2 as a puppet to 2NT with various hand types, one of which is 1=1=(56) choice of games.

Playing fauirly basic methods, I'd transfer like suggested, and then bid 3, like suggested, and then pass 3NT. I just showed 5-5, presumably, and partner opted NT. I respect that, especially with two stiff knavves as kickers. If 6minor was on, partner might have stepped out somewhere along the way.

If I assume no four-suit transfers (assuming this was optional), then I'll assume three-suit transfers and bid 2. When partner bids 3, I'll bid 3NT. Partner will assume that I have a minor and concern about 3NT. If he corrects 3NT to 4, I'll bid 4NT to make him choose the minor. If he takes that as BW, I'll hope for 0 or 1, or I'll hope for a WAG slam to make, or I'll bid 5 and expect him to correct to 5NT.

However, I'd rather have better methods.

I don't recall the last time I played without a way to show game forcing 5-5 minors after 1NT. If I showed that I would certainly pass 3NT. I have J J to help partner so I'm not exactly worried.
Please let me know about any questions or interest or bug reports about GIB.

Pass hoping 9 tricks are easier than 11 and hoping my major suit J's can help prevent a disaster in one of those suits.
