We do not notify when a friend logs out.

When a friend logs in, we optionally notify.

Login. Click your profile. Click Friends/Enemies

Here you can clear the "Notify me" if you dont want to be notified when a friend logs in.

If you insist that you are seeing "blah has logged OFF", pls email fred@ you know where . com

Kenneth, that happens if you're writing a message to somebody, and in that moment that person logs off. It is just to inform you why the chat message is cancelled.

They were unclear, at least to me. Are you saying that

a) You are just sitting there, minding your own business, and out of the blue you see a litttle window that says "xx has logged off" ?

or

:P You are doing something and this little window pops up. What are you doing as this is happening ?

This thread seems to be getting itself tied up in self-fulfilling (Gordian) Knots :P I am still convinced they are (translated as ELLES in French if you get my drift) 'friends' he has skulking in his friends list he dont want his girlfriend to find out about......

 : Hmmmmmmm... i think what he means is this:
He gets that box telling him xx has logged off while he is chatting with yy (whom he knows) but the prompt tells him about xx (whom he doesnt know)... ;)

That happens to me sometimes, but i don't think it's a bug.... could it be that while you are chatting with yy, butttttt...by mistake you send a message to xx (who has logged off) and this causes the prompt?... just an observation :D we are all trying to help figure out what the problem could be (he he) Actually this is very Colomboesque  we'll tet to the bottom of it :)
You know its time to diet, when you nod one chin and 2 others second the motion :)

A problem I've had, that resembles yours, is when I'm private chatting with someone and I'm kibitzing or playing at a table.

I respond by clicking on the person's name in the Chat Pane. All is fine, until I send the message without double-checking who the recipient is.

What has happened is that as I clicked on the person's name, some other chat message appeared in the Chat Pane and it scrolled -- so in fact I thought I had clicked my friend's name, but didn't.

I do know the solution, and try to use. Perhaps you could try this for a short while and see if the problem goes away:

When your friend sends you a message, use Ctrl+R (press and hold down the ctrl key and then press the letter R - doesn't have to be shifted). The chat dialog will come up with your friend's Id as the recipient.

The Ctrl+R "Replies" to the last person who sent you a private chat message.
