First trick of the evening, you play 1NT and you're playing a MP tourney. LHO leads the 3, and it's explained "usually 4th best against NT". You want to make 3 tricks in this suit. What card do you play from dummy?

Ok... from QJ9x the "expected lead" is the Q. So here it seems more or less clear that if this is honest 4th best, EAST will have at least one of these cards.

There is two winning cases to play low from dummy (east having either Q or J), one winning case to play the Ten (east with the 9). So from that standpoint, play low seems odds on to me (bidding and WEST tendencies would be helpful to know).

Helps if I know my opps, but since I don't I think low is the best shot.

As most of you, i played small, and it seemed like my RHO had 9x, so it was the wrong decision... I wanted to know if it's best in the long run to play low, and with this poll i think i was right.

If you only look at this suit, its 2 to 1 for playing small (not the 10) [and thats my play]
But its good to be aware of one thing that eat the gap between those two line's precentage.
Lets say the bidding went 1nt 3nt , west leading a 4 card suit, this suppose to be his best suit, now there is a better chance that QJxx will be a best suit then J9XX or Q9XX , this resson is even stronger if we are talking about a minor suit, or we have other ressons to suspect the leader having other good leading options.
