Topic is a bit misleading as the answer is very very easy: Open 1 NT.

Sort of like holding a 12 hcp hand that is 5-5 in the majors and opening a heart, and then being surprised when you have rebid issues.

After taking over for whoever sat in this chair last round, I rebid 2♣. No rebid can correct my previous mistake, but I think this is the least of evils.
