He has played Ace then 9, with standard carding that is either A9x or A9 doubleton.

That is consistent with declarer having

or so, which might have made a long suit try in diamonds... but might not.
It's hard to construct a game try for declarer that doesn't have the ace of clubs, so I can't really see a club switch helping.
If I was going to play a trump, I think I should have done so at trick two.

It seems to me:

If opener has two clubs, it doesn't matter what I lead.
If opener has three clubs+, it doesn't matter what I lead, as long as it isn't a club.

May as well try for the diamond ruff. If opener has the AJx of clubs, we can't set it. If he has Axx of clubs, he can't get rid of the low one.

I think the diamond switch was quite brave. Assuming partner has led from a five-card suit, that's a pretty poor dummy. Furthermore, our ♣K is sitting over dummy's only useful card outside hearts. I think a passive defence is likely to be best.

A diamond switch might be disatrous if declarer has ♦AJx, or if he has several finesses to take. I'd have played back a heart.
