What is your minimum for 2D?

I think I would bid 2 with many hands where I would overcall at the one-level. This hand does not qualify; 8 hcp is okay but Qx is awful and the diamond suit is poor too. Something like:

Axx xxx KJTxx xx

seems like a nice minimum.

I'd also be less aggressive if I were not a passed hand, since otherwise the range is too wide for partner to do something sensible.

I don't consider myself playing OBAR but I would probably bid on just about the same hands here as someone who is playing it. I mean I'm a passed hand and the opponents are in a fit, what does partner expect?

The given hand is too disgusting to bid with of course.
Please let me know about any questions or interest or bug reports about GIB.

With the hand you shown, no. Too defensive.

With awm's hand, sure.

Thanks for the replys.
Scoring: IMP

(p)-p-(1C)-p
(2C)-2D-(3C)-3D
(4C)-p-(p)-4D
All Pass
- -
2C=6-9

4D-3, Only -1 IMP, luckily no DBL
(All other hands I posted this week happened the same evening, but I hate this one the most. I think we both bid very bad here)

As previously mentioned, don't like 2 here.

While the 3 compete seems normal, I also think 4 is a very poor call. North is balanced, not that strong, and has most of his points outside the diamond suit. If it's right to compete to 4, south would've either opened a weak bid in diamonds or competed to 4 himself.

Yes with awm's hand, and a big no with the given quacky 8 count with a possibly useless Qx in their suit.

I also really hate the 4 call in the given auction with than flat 4333 and with both hands having passed initially and as noted, they were lucky to escape someone's X.

If you're going to stretch to compete with OBAR here, make sure PD knows to not hang you for using it, and he should be happy that you've pushed the opps into 4, this time on an 8 card fit, and 21 HCP where they, looking at your hands, look like major underdogs to make.
