(1) Do you agree with the 2 call?
(2) Do you agree with the 3 call?
(3) What do you do over 3?

no yes 4, but the first no is very close

Agreed and noting that the 2 overcall of 1 is a nuisance !

Playing Neg Free Bid:
1) 2 (Yes)
2) 3 (Yes)
3) 4

Not playing NFB:
1) DBL
2) 3 (Though N may bid 3 directly with 6-5, skipping this round)
3) 4

OK. It seems that most of you have arrived at 4 on this hand one way or another.

Here is the entire hand. Assign the blame:

Scoring: XIMP

1 - (2) - 2 - (P)
2 - (P) - 3 - (P)
3 - All Pass

What blame?
I don't mind not to be playing 6.

Both player have shortness opposite partners longest suit, and there is no need to be in every 23 HCP slam. And after a lead, it's not even a good one.

But seriously: South showed a 6-5 distribution with a strong hand. He can't have more than 2 loser in and and North is covering a possible loser. North single in must be helpful to establish partners suit and limits loser in this suit to one. And South is covering a trump loser by holding the Q. How many loser can South have holding a 6-5 distribution with (more than) opening strength?

100% North for missing game.

blame for missing game.

Anyway, I think North shouldn't need to be ashamed of his slight overbid of 2. In support of spades, he's got a good hand, certainly worth the playing strength announced with 2. A raise to 4 is normal.

I like stretching to bid the 6 card suit, but this one was too much of a stretch. If you made it a little bit better I would agree though. 1-3 in the minors is really not good. That being said, I slightly prefer Xing to passing (even though I generally hate Xing with this hand type). I would probably rank them X>pass>2H.

3H is pretty much forced since there's no other option, and 4S is clear since partner has shown 5-6.

Scoring: XIMP

98x
AJT98

AQJxxx
Ax

2 - (P) - 3 - (P)
3 - All Pass

Well north passed a forcing bid so I guess I'd blame him! Having made the overbid of 2H it is absolutely horrible to then pass a forcing bid. If north is going to bid like this he should just quit overbidding. And it's not like north even had a bad hand for this auction, he had 3 trumps to an honor, an ace, and a stiff! WTF?

OK. I was South. I thought that my bids were forcing, but my partner obviously thought differently.

If one held the QH as well as the hand, I bid 2H.

Instead I like the double, freebid of hearts, raise of spades concept.
