You hold KQJ T AJ9853 KJ8
Pard opens 1S. Then it goes ... 2D : 2S 4H : 4N 5S : 6C ?
How do you and your next Vanderbilt partner play 6C?

Response here would be...
6♦ third round control
6♥ second round control
6♠ no control
6NT Kx
7♣ KQ
7♠ singleton (as raiser, need three trumps to show singleton if i remember correctly)

The 6♣ bid in the auction given would ask for the next-cheapest king, ♦K in this case, and then 6♦ over 6♣ would deny holding it.
A 6♦ bid over 5♠ would ask for 3rd round control of clubs, etc.
On that same hand, it is hard to understand why Verhees passed 4♠. Maybe he thought that 4♠ in his auction was different from the meaning of 5♠ in similar auctions.

If partner needs king of clubs but not king of diamonds why couldn't he bid 5NT? I'm quite sure they play you show the cheapest king.

But why does it matter how I play it?
What matters is how the pair who bid this way plays it.

The question wasn't what "they" play, but what my partner and I play.

Change "partner" to "your partner" and "couldn't" to "can't"

Strangely, for me this asks for the club Queen, but for a very strange reason and, as for Han, my bidding specific.
4♥ by me was a bald-faced lie, as I claimed to have three of the top four honors (or solid), no club control (another lie), two of the top three spades (truth) and specifically a stiff heart that was not the Ace or King (truth).
4NT asked how good my hearts were, and I lied and claimed AKQ, without the Jack. 6♣ asked whether I held the club Queen (clubs being implicitly Opener's side suit contextually), and I lied and said I did, which makes sense considering that I buried the King.

Asking for the KQ of clubs (6D = neither, 6H = queen, 6S = king, 6NT = KQ)
But why does it matter how I play it?
This is a method survey, for my new partnership's benefit, with a story thrown in.
We are clueless about bids like this one. Will read posts carefully and also check out the Eddie Kantar reference. Will also review continuations after pard shows 0 or 3 keycards.

1♠ 2♦
2♠ 4♥
4NT 5♠
6♣ = "we got all keys. can you contribute with some club fillers for the grand?"
to which the response would be "yes", so I bid 7♠ now.
