As was mentioned earlier "Pass is losing bridge". With 2 you show diamonds, with DBL you try to show +, with pass you show nothing. If pass firstly, what to bid after that, something balancing?

DBL is a good option, if 2(3) after that over 2(3) means offshape t/o dbl with +, which I doubt is the case.

So my bid is 2, a perfect suit, passed partner. Even my partner is non-passed, I will bid 2 also, I have missed too much high cards.

Actually it is more interesting to me what I (you) will bid if bidding goes (1)-2-(pass)-2 - with partner passed and non-passed. Are you going to bid your stopper or the 4 cards in ?

2D for these reasons:

1) partner most likely hasn't enough hand to punish me for being light.
2) We can't outbid spades with hearts
3) I want a diamond lead

This is only true for 7.

2D because pard is a passed hand and we are white.

Pass is a close 2nd (and red i would pass).

These is exactly the hand where some players feel compelled to enter the auction like a mosquito follow light. But 2D will give very little profit over pass in a strong field.

1--This hand is unlikely to be yours
2-- you will on lead the majority of the time.
3- Doesnt take any bidding space and is as likely to help the opps in the bidding then to annoyed them.
4- In the play of the card strong opps will profit from your overcall more then your partner
5- its unlikely to find a cheap save.
6- even if you have some magical hands and game is there you might not bid it or reach the best game.

On the good side its pretty much a risk free overcall. The only small risk is see is partner competing a little too hard with a 2353 shape(-300) or taking a -500 sac.

X would never crossed my mind even if playing ELC. At least half of the value of this overcall is based on lead directing if LHO declared. Buying the hand in a H contract seems a bit slim.

I happen to think it's a very noble way to meet one's maker, especially for a guy like him.
Bottom line is we never let that difference of opinion interfere with anything."

I make the 2 overcall here, but it's very close between 2 and double for me. The tie breaker is that we open light, making it less probable that we can have a game on. To make a compromise between competing for the (best) partscore and get partner on to what probably will be the best lead on defence I chose to bid my suit.
Kind regards,
Harald

2D. A matter of style. We still have a shot at hearts if pard makes a responsive dbl.

Yes of course. Don't yours Phil?

2 is a better bid for me, for many reasons:
-takes away bidding space
-it's a good lead director
-cannot be penalised due to the good quality of the suit
I won't double with this hand, tghough i play ELC

I rather prefer 2 to double: the lead directing value and the danger of a club advance tip the scales. I would prefer double to keep hearts in the picture if we are playing ELC.
