I didn't intend any moral. I was just curious what people would do in a serious game, and then I thought I should tell when I had the hand and what happened.
Please note: I am interested in boring, bog standard, 2/1.

i balance with a pass

Me too. We also play system on here.

Yes, pass is to play in balancing seat. Good system.

But seriously, if this is not even close to 1NT, would you ever bid 1NT with a passed hand, then?

Rarely.

If the most partner can have is around 13/14 otherwise she might overcall 1NT or find and offshape double. Then there is not much gain from balancing and there is a big downside. You might suffer a big penalty and they might even have a game.

Is the question "is balance a long-term winner?" Pass for me.
Or "would I resist some fun with this hand?" 1H to see who gets this right.

If partner can't overcall and RHO can't respond, then LHO probably has a hand he was planning on jump shifting. Why give him the opportunity now, possibly catching his partner with a fit and making game?
