Bidding whatever you want, I suppose. You can assume you play a weak NT here or a balancing 11-14 or whatever.

Your opps are avg+ in a local club game.

I think I pass. At IMPs I would open 1 given the vulnerability.

FWIW I would assume pass to be best here to prevent opps finding a spade fit.
I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy - but it might improve my bridge.

Playing vs solid openers this is a clearcut pass.

Vs light openers it's much closer, but I'd still be passing most of the time.

EDIT: Of cource I'm talking about opponents above - that's why I used the plural form.
Kind regards,
Harald

edit...As I reread, not sure if you meant partner is a solid opener or the opp....if the opp then I agree..if partner then I disagree.

I disagree. Just the opposite.

Playing light openers this is a clear pass in fourth seat. We got nothing.
Playing very sound openers this is a clear opening bid in fourth seat. We could have game easily and maybe a slam....doubtful but who knows.

Partner passed in second seat.

Maybe you have a grand slam Mike. Don't be pessimistic.

Alright. I passed it out at the table for a top board. I don't really remember the hand since it wasn't played but lefty had about 11.5 HCP with KJxxx and righty had Ax, but that's all I know.

You passed Kevin? I have a hard time believing this story.
Please note: I am interested in boring, bog standard, 2/1.

avg+ opps at the club is the perfect condition to pass imo.

If the opps are say, the worst opps at the club then I think opening is clear since you have so much equity in competitive bidding/card play vs them.

If RHO is an aggressive pro and pard is sound then opening might be right since he passed in third seat and pard might have passed a good hand.

Good choice imo.

If partner is a weak player that is another very good reason to pass. Sounds like you had the perfect conditions in place for a pass.

normally pass, but since I normally think that I am far better than opps it becomes a close decision hehe.
