In general, how do you feel about opening hands in fourth seat based on Pearson points (HCP + spades, open if at least 15)?

Between (2) and (3) - more than a vague guideline, but just 'important' instead of 'very important'.
;)
That's impossible. No one can give more than one hundred percent. By definition that is the most anyone can give.

Vague guideline.
Please note: I am interested in boring, bog standard, 2/1.

I do actually follow it, but you need to add the caveat that if you would open in 1st/2nd seat, you should open. Pearson points are good for deciding whether to open a borderline hand in 4th chair (like say a balanced 11-count). They are not a reason to pass an obvious opening bid.

Spot on. Pearson points should be used to determine whether a hand you would pass as dealer should be opened in fourth seat.

See this long thread on pearson points... it includes some data just for fun.

Somewhere between your first two choices right, but I tend to ignore them completely now...

very surprised with comments so far.

If playing lite openers I play it 97=99%+ 14 Pearson i pass...

If playing super sound openers..it still works...just remember pard passes 13 hcp often. So open with less pearson.

I think the lack of usefulness of Pearson Points for 4th hand opening is not so much attributed to the unimportance of a lack of spades, but an overimportance to the advantage of the opening bid. Especially in hands where the HCP are closely divided.

I use Pearson Points as a vague guideline on borderline hands.
My experience is that on those hand I pass out I score 65%+ on average. I really don't know why.
Kind regards,
Harald

Maybe because you open more lightly than most and when you pass, the opps rate to have 23 hcp between them?
