Scoring: MP

2 P 4 P
-P 5 X P
-P P

The hand above is, of course, the 5 bidder.

A double of 4 by North would have been penalty.

I understand the desire not to sell out to 4 holding a stiff, however, 5 is too rich for my blood.

You have a very weak trump holding which means that the opponents are going to be in a good position to drop the ax. Moreover, -500 will be a disaster at MPs

At equal non-vul, by bidding you are saying that it is more likely than not that either:

1) You are making 9 tricks in hearts when they make 10 or more tricks in spades, or

2) You are making 11 tricks in hearts.

You are kidding, right?

0 sounds closest among the choices offered. I actually don't think the auction is impossible, it just shows nothing like this hand.
Please let me know about any questions or interest or bug reports about GIB.

You left out one choice - indescribably poor.

I think that if I had another heart I might bid this way. Probably a better hand for this action is something like:

x
QJT8xxx
xx
Axx

Bidding like this with a 1633 hand is too rich for me though.

I'd give it a 2: I think the auction exists, I understand the thinking, but the hand is not sufficiently offensive.

Just because I am playing a bad method over 4S (no takeout doubles) doesn't mean I should be assuming partner has the hand he cannot show (a takeout double).

This player simply plays by themselves. This is the sort of action that gets the cards tossed at you.

From Psych "I mean, Gus and I never see eye-to-eye on work stuff.
For instance, he doesn't like being used as a human shield when we're being shot at.
I happen to think it's a very noble way to meet one's maker, especially for a guy like him.
Bottom line is we never let that difference of opinion interfere with anything."

Hi,

4.

The only real issue is, that you are short
in spades, it would be better, if you would
have xxx, in which case it is pretty likely,
that partner will be short in spades.
It would also help, if it would be green vs.
red, I have done dumper things, and if we
would talk about spades instead of hearts.

Be sure, that you play with a partner, who
likes to play with you, and has some (black)
humor.

With kind regards
Marlowe

It was the last board of the match, we were doing badly, he knows those aren't the conditions where I do my best thinking. I knew it was a dumb bid the moment after I put it down on the table.

The odd part was that it worked (down 2), in spite of partner having a very ordinary hand. So then I started wondering if I'd lucked out on the cards, or if I'd blundered into what looked like an awful bid but was actually reasonable. Then I wondered if I could get a unanimous vote in the polls.

But all my wondering was for naught.

Look, if you are behind by miles you can do whatever the heck you want.

I'm jaded about bids like this because I occasionally play with a maniac that seems to make a call like this about every three hands.
