Gnome told me what happened later.

To be clear, I think double is retarded, not the doubler

You would have doubled too if you knew how the auction would continue :D

For me Doubl is much worse than pass. So real choice is between pass and 5, and i think that 2 world class players holding this hand in a team match won't try to outsmart themselves by passing

Since it sort of leaked, I doubled, and I was certainly happy about it when partner passed. Until his hand turned out to be Jx xx AQJxx KQxx and they were cold...

In fairness partner having a doubleton heart and four clubs seems like pretty much a fluke, and hardly a reason not to double (the real reason seems to be fear partner will bid 5.) Still some of the responses are causing me to rethink things.

I made the retarded double, but in defense of retards everywhere I assumed it was penalty.

I don't like to base arguments on results, and I won't do that here as well... but I can't stop myself from comment that "cold" game, in which you had to face with 3 losers after trick one, which can become 4 if you handle the Diams. the wrong way (and it is far from clear which one is the right way lol).

:)
It all makes perfect sense, expressed in dollars and cents.

There are only 2 quick losers (in hearts). Cold was an overbid but if you can get the diamonds right you will always make.

Okay, just two different definitions of cold :)

If double is unitaterally penalties then that would be much better.

Disagree even if X is 100% penalty i still think 5C is reasonnable. X maybe be better but not by much. The X is likely to bring only 100 pts. Im not really afraid of X and they make it, im more afraid that we make 6C and get only 200/500.

I happen to think it's a very noble way to meet one's maker, especially for a guy like him.
Bottom line is we never let that difference of opinion interfere with anything."

I think it is much more likely that neither side can make anything than that either side can make a game or slam.

Josh, this is an interesting new variant of the reading and replying problem :)
You say "Opponents are cold for game", someone replies "No, we are not cold for game", then you say "yes I was right, we are pretty much cold for game, i.e. on a guess".

Maybe the correct term isn't "cold" but rather "cool" or "nippy".

.... Well the main point was that Donn said that THEIR game is colded, then defended this claim by saying how OUR game is "cold". I really think it's a new high when a posted doesn't know what he is replying to when he is quoting himself...

I really think it's a new low when you have nothing better to contribute than this.
