Weird auction, not the worst slam I've been in by a long shot, but the X spells doom. Oh well, next hand.

Opinion? I think you are going down. :P

Seriously, though, I have seen worse slams. This one needs some luck, but it is not terrible. On a heart lead, it has a lot of play. On a diamond lead you pretty much need 2-2 clubs and something else good happening (spades 3-2 and ♥K onside, singleton spade honor in front of the spades, something like that).

The 6♣ call was imaginative. I assume that 3♣ was not forcing.

It's not a bad slam, although the double might be a bad sign. Normal play seems to be something like winning the diamond lead in hand, spade to ace, and ruff a spade. Then club to ace and ruff a spade. If spades are 3-2 and clubs aren't 4-0 it seems pretty cold now. They can over-ruff the spade but it can't be the person with stiff club over-ruffing (you already drew one round of trump).

Shockingly inept auction, regardless of the play possibilities.
"Gibberish in, gibberish out. A trial judge, three sets of lawyers, and now three appellate judges cannot agree on what this law means. And we ask police officers, prosecutors, defense lawyers, and citizens to enforce or abide by it? The legislature continues to write unreadable statutes. Gibberish should not be enforced as law."

I think I was West but as I recall my hand was slightly better.

Anyway, the deal was that I owe Wayne a beer (to be drunk with me in Coventry) if he did not post this hand. So you missed the chance. :P
