Hi,

first let me state, what I wont do:

I wont open 1H.
I wont open 3H.
I wont use other, ...

What is left?
Pass or 4H.

I think both options are valid, but I most
likely would go with 4H, at least partner
knows, that a 4H preempt can sometimes
have lots of outside values.

And no, this is not an everyday preempt.

With kind regards

3, without a second thought.

Why would I consider opening a 1 bid with an aceless hand with less than opening values?

I am sure that there are some out there who don't think this hand is good enough for an opening 3 bid vulnerable (but not on this Forum).

My choice.

I am not going to preempt at the 3 level with 2 side kings, not close.

Originally we play multy.

With this hand 2 (weak in one major or strong (19-22) NT distribution).

In SAYC system - 2. Count exactly 6 tricks in heart game.
Both red, down too, exactly for 2.
Pass is my lovely bid!

I lack the imagination for anything but 3H.
Please note: I am interested in boring, bog standard, 2/1.

3. The only other halfway reasonable option is 4.

3, but not happy about it.

Second choice pass.

I won't ever open 1 with so few points and so little defense. I do expect partner to game force with many 13-counts with short hearts after all (AQJx x KQJxx xxx is a totally normal game force for example, but also an easy pass of a 3 open).

nice you put 3, because that is exactly what I though when I saw the hand, faviourable might change things, but at equeal 3 is plain obvious.

I'm plenty happy to open 3 even though I also would with a king less. Mix it up a little, if you always have the same hand for a preempt you are very easy to play against. True it can sometimes make partner guess, and having such a good holding in the other major could possibly miss a contract there, but when you preempt you are taking a shot to begin with that it's not your hand so back up what you think.

I don't know which of 1 or 4 is more disgusting. 4 is getting way too much support, I probably give that a 1/10 and 1 a 2/10.
Please let me know about any questions or interest or bug reports about GIB.

I wouldn't use the word disgusting, but I agree with Josh-now-with-a-signature-donn.

The thing that 4 has going for it which makes it higher rated than pass or 1 IMO is that you might catch a lucky dummy where 4 is cold and there is no way to reach it, such as:

AQJx
K
xxxxx
Qxx

It is sort of silly to argue about which call is a very distant 2nd best.

4H

I don't find that 3H preempts anyone when it matters.

<snip>

If you have a more variable style, than you are harder
to play against, but also harder to partner.

Opening with a preempt is also a constructie move, not
only a destructive move.
