Hi,

X = penalty, I play it as takeout (= shortage),
but mainly because of memory reasons,
I would say, there is not much to choose,
cerainly a matter to discuss with partner,
playing with a stranger, I would look at my hand ...
3C = GF, asking for a club stopper
3D = GF, natural, at least 5-4
