When in doubt and double fit, bid one more...

But this is really close. both have two black doubeltons, which is the worst holding you may have for the 5. level.

I think North double was right, he had shown his a normal opening with 5 Hearts and 4 Diamonds toll now. Now he shows that he has some defence too. Perfect.

So spotlight on south: 2 Diamond and 4 HEart are fine, good luck 2 Dia was forcing.

But instead of passing after 4 Spade, I had bid 5 Heart for some reasons:
1. I do have extra length in my second suit.
2. They are green vs. red. The chance, that they bid 5 Spade is there.
3. We have a double fit, this is a reason to bid one more.
4. rho bid like an idiot (then he will bid 5 Spade for sure) or like someone who wants to walk the dog. In this case, I better bid to my game.
5. If I make 5, this counts a billion imps more then I can earn on defence.
6. I forgot all the reasons why I better pass 4 Spade....
Kind Regards

Roland

South has one more diamond than he might have, and both have pure hands. So South's decision is slightly more dubious than North's but neither was really bad. I think I would have bid the same.

100% of the blame goes to EW, with E wearing most of it, but West not escaping blame-free because he held the spade 10xx and that club K

Tough hand when both players are 2-2 in the black suits. I think north is more to blame than south, he has an extra diamond for the raise and spades controlled, but really hardly any blame for anyone.
Please let me know about any questions or interest or bug reports about GIB.

If anyone is to blame at all I'd say it's north. With two aces, nothing wasted in spades and a 4th dime he's close to bidding 5. South really can't bid anything more - give norht the K instead of the A and the bidding is the same. Now they can't even make 4. But as other has already commented, this is such a close decision that it's hard to blame north for doubling here.
Kind regards,
Harald
